General Questions

Do I need a referral to see Dr King?

A current referral from your regular GP is necessary to claim Medicare benefits for seeking care from a medical specialist. Without a referral you will be required to pay the full fee to Dr King with no recourse to reimbursement.

Private health insurance is likely to reimburse most of the costs involved in admission to hospital under the care of a private specialist.

What are the fees charged by Dr Kati King?

Dr Kati King endeavours to set a fee structure that is affordable yet reflects the standard of care she provides.

Specific fees are explained according to the specific care that might be required, including the opportunities of claiming from Medicare and Private Health funds, and the anticipated out of pocket expenses associated with your care. Before consultations and procedures are undertaken, you will be informed of gap payments that are likely to apply.

Can I bring a support person to my visit?

Partners are welcome to attend all visits. Other close relationships are also valued, and close friends may be welcome to attend on occasion if that is your wish. You are reminded that the focus of the visit will be on your medical wellbeing and that of your baby…. sometimes sensitive personal and confidential health details may need consideration, it is expected engagement in this assessment will not be inhibited by those attending with you.

How many visits will I have?

The frequency and timing of your pregnancy visits are determined by your needs and the specific features and possible complications of your pregnancy. The first pregnancy visit is normally at 10 weeks, easily brought forward (or even made later e.g. if transferring from another place or doctor) as circumstances require.

Generally, you will expect to visit every 5 weeks from about the 10th week, every 2-3 weeks from the 30th week, and every 1-2 weeks from the 36th week of your pregnancy.

Of course, Dr King ensures you are able to contact her at any time during the pregnancy if medical circumstance require this.
